Kindle 3
What makes the Amazon Kindle 3 such an amazing electronic book reader is its accesibility. It is suitable for anyone, from tech geeks to old age pensioners. The only requirement is that you enjoy reading.
Kindle 3 Review
I have been using the Kindle 3 reader since Septemeber 2010. You can check out the Amazon website for the full product specifications. Here is my personal top 5.
- The look and feel of the eBook reader is second to none.
- Beautiful E Ink Pearl display. Crisp, clear and easy on the eye. Unlike looking at computer screens for a long time, I get no eye strain or headaches. The Electronic Paper Display has to be seen with your own eyes to be fully appreciated.
- Free access to roughly two million out of copyright books. Since purchasing my Kindle, I have only read two paid for books (one of which was a gift). I save money with my Kindle!
- Built in dictionary. Very easy to quickly check the meaning of words without spoiling the flow of reading.
- Great battery life. When the 3G connection is off, it can last for up to one month! What I like is that the “battery low” warning starts to appear long before the battery actually dies. You get plenty of warning that you have to charge your Kindle soon.
There are two different 6″ models, the Wi-Fi only version and the Kindle 3G + Wi-Fi model. As you would expect, the one that comes with access to Whispernet, Amazon’s 3G network is a bit more expensive. The only real difference is that with this reader, we can download books from anywhere in the world with 3G coverage. This is the model that I have myself.
Kindle 3 Limitations
For me, these are/were in no way a deal breaker. However, you should know that the Kindle web browser is a bit of a hassle to use. Perhaps if we compared it to computers of 20 years ago, it would compare favorably. But in 2011, it doesn’t quite cut it. That said, the Kindle is not really marketed as a web browsing device. If you need this sort of functionality, the iPad 2 would be a better option.
Secondly, you cannot skype with the Kindle[1]. This would be really cool considering that there are no charges for connecting to their 3G network. Although, this is surely one of the reasons why there is no Kindle skype feature.
Kindle 3 Reader
If you want a hand held electronic book reader for reading books and are not expecting flashy, colorful, touch technology then the Kindle 3 might be the thing for you. As an eBook reader, the Kindle 3 performs amazingly well. We are unlikely to see the Amazon Kindle 4 until near the end of 2011 at the earliest. So for many months to come, the Kindle 3 is the best option. A new cheap Kindle 3 has recently been released. This version displays advertisements on the screensaver and the homepage too.
